Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) PhD position

Ranging from €2,042 in the first year to €2,612 in the final year.

Overview

ASCoR currently has one vacancy for a PhD candidate for the project 'Health campaign effects: The role of interpersonal communication and exposure to news media messages as competing sources of information'.

Most health campaigns only have small or even no effects. A partial explanation is that people are exposed to competing sources of information that interfere with health campaign information. This project examines two alternative sources of interference that have largely been ignored so far: 1) Interpersonal communication, and 2) exposure to news media messages about the campaign and the targeted health behaviour.

Four experiments will shed light on moderation of health campaign effects by these two factors. The results will provide a fuller understanding of the effects of health campaigns on health behaviour.
Requirements

* Have a research interest in the topic of the project
* Experience with research on news media and/or health communication is desirable Have a background in communication science, psychology, health sciences, or a related field
* Have proven experience with experimental research, for example in the Master`s thesis
* Have a firm background in quantitative research and the willingness to learn new statistical techniques
* Have excellent organizational skills
* Have the ability and interest to work in a team
* Have an excellent written and spoken command of English and Dutch
* Hold a relevant Master`s degree, preferably a Research Master degree or equivalent qualifications; candidates who are due to graduate before November 1st are welcome to apply

University of Amsterdam PhD position in Music Cognition

Overview

The PhD student will take part in the CSCA research programme: The role of neural plasticity in conscious perception and will be supervised by the principal investigator Prof. Henkjan Honing and a postdoctoral researcher. This programme consists of three intertwined projects addressing the following three questions:

Does consciousness require synaptic plasticity?
Does perceptual learning depend on consciousness and not on attention?
Does conscious perception depend on previous learning of image statistics?

The PhD project will mainly contribute to the second question by studying hierarchical time perception in adults. In addition, the project will be concerned with the computational modeling of the temporal aspects of music (such as rhythm, timing, and tempo) and the role of perception, attention, expectation and memory in music cognition. Next to computational modeling, we will use brain imaging techniques to identify global neural correlates of rhythm perception.
Tasks

  • Complete and defend a PhD thesis within four years
  • Regularly present intermediate research results at international workshops and conferences, and publish them in proceedings and journals
  • Collaborate with the researchers in other parts of the programme supervised by Prof. V. Lamme, Prof. C. Pennartz and Prof. A. Smeulders
  • Participate in the organization of the programme`s research activities and events, such as conferences, workshops, and joined publications
  • Assist in teaching activities in the domain of music cognition

Requirements

  • A Master`s degree with excellent grades in a relevant field, such as cognitive science, music cognition, computer science or psychology
  • Candidates should have a keen interest in music cognition
  • Candidates should have demonstrable skills in either computational modeling and/or in experimental psychology
  • Good academic writing and presentation skills
  • Good social and organisational skills

Story about my vacation and my favorite car

Today is my holiday with my family. not many activities that I do to fill the holiday. We're planning a vacation trip to the beach to fill our holiday. Before we travel far for vacation we always bring the car to be examined in the garage. This course is needed, so our trip was not to be damaged by many of the cost to repair and time to have fun is only used for car repairs.

We always use the favorites car for a holiday with family. An old Chevrolet car we have, we always care for our chevy and always buy chevy truck accessories to makes pretty and looks good when in use. We always treat our chevy regularly to maintain engine performance. We always keep our vehicles, make our trip more comfortable and awake.

Graduate Research Fellowships in Soft Condensed Matter, Patterned Surfaces and Colloids at Centro de Física Teórica e Computacional

Applications are invited for up to four Graduate Research Fellowships under Project PTDC/FIS/098254/2008, Patterned surfaces and colloids: the effects of texture on fluid adsorption and self-assembly, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) of Portugal, as follows:

1. Duration:
12-24 months full-time, starting September 2010. Preference will be given to candidates wishing to pursue studies leading to a doctoral degree.


2. Subject:
`Soft condensed matter` - the class of materials for which the relevant energy scale is close to the energy of thermal agitation - exhibits dramatic emergent phenomena that arise from simple interactions.

This project aims to study a new generation of materials, where surface texture plays a dominant role in determining he structure and properties of adsorbed or self-assembled fluid phases. It comprises three theoretical and computational sub-projects investigating:
- liquid-crystal structure induced by patterned substrates;
- the self-assembly of colloids with anisotropic interactions; and
- nematic emulsions. The combined study of these systems will shed light on the principles governing the interplay of geometry and fluctuations on the mesoscale.

3. Supervision:
Professor Margarida Telo da Gama and other members of the Condensed Matter Physics Group at CFTC (cftc.cii.fc.ul.pt), as appropriate.

4. Academic Requirements:
First Degree or MSc in physics or related areas.

5. Pay:
At the appropriate point in FCT payscales (tax-free).

About Us
Indonesian Danone Institute Foundation was incorporated in May 2007 a an independent, non-profit organization, separated from the Danone business units. The Foundation is supported by eight Scientifice Members from various institutions in Indonesia.

Missions
Promote the advancement and sharing of knowledge in the areas of diet, nutrition and health, focusing to address current and prevent future major local nutritional and health issues such as double-burden nutrition problems (under nutrition and over nutrition) of low-income Indonesian populations (Social Economic Class CDE).

Promote scientific research findings fieldworks recognized by local and international scientific communities in the related disciplines to the above mission, especially those leading to the creation of the low-cost food and safe water solutions to address the major local nutritional and health issues.

The scientific community gathered under DII shall be:
1. A link between scientists, and nutrition, health & education professionals, who bring relevant scientific knowledge to the attention of the public.
2. A clearing house for information on nutrition and diet-related subjects.

- To encourage the established research institutions pursuing new scientific findings/discoveries
- To reduce funding barrier for talented scholars in pursuing their doctorate thesis and encourage better quality researches
- To promote quality scientfic research of Indonesian scientists and bring stronger credibility of these findings & discoveries through the appearance in relevant international journals.

Beasiswa Prasetiya Mulya –Vivere for Education Scholarship





Prasetiya Mulya - Vivere for Education Scholarship adalah program beasiswa bagi siswa-siswi SMA/sedarajat yang aktif dan berprestasi, namun memiliki keterbatasan finansial untuk melanjutkan studi di Prasetiya Mulya Business School.

Beasiswa yang diberikan bersifat tidak mengikat, jumlah penerima beasiswa adalah 1 orang mahasiswa S1 Prasetiya Mulya angkatan 2010 dengan bentuk beasiswa sebagai berikut:

selama menjalankan kuliah di S1 Prasetiya Mulya (masa kuliah 4 tahun / 8 semester).


Persyaratan dan dokumen yang dibutuhkan

  • Lulus seleksi masuk S1 Prasetiya Mulya 2010 dengan grade kelulusan minimal B.
  • Warga Negara Indonesia
  • Siswa SMA / SMK yang telah duduk di kelas 3 (tiga) dan lulus pada tahun ajaran 2009 / 2010.
  • Memiliki nilai rata-rata hasil Ujian Nasional (UAN) minimal 7.0 atau berprestasi secara akademik yaitu termasuk dalam peringkat 10 besar selama SMA / SMK yang dibuktikan dengan lampiran :

    • Fotokopi rapor SMA/SMK kelas 1, 2 dan 3 yang dilegalisir
    • Fotokopi ijazah SMA dan hasil Ujian Akhir Nasional yang dilegalisir.
  • Melampirkan fotokopi KTP yang masih berlaku, kartu keluarga dan pas foto berwarna ukuran 4 x 6
  • Tidak sedang terlibat tindak pidana maupun pemakai atau terlibat dengan narkoba dan/atau zat atau obat-obatan terlarang dan melampirkan surat pernyataan dengan tanda tangan di atas meterai dan disertai dengan tanda tangan orang tua Mahasiswa yang menyatakan ketidakterlibatannya dalam hal-hal tersebut
  • Berasal dari keluarga yang memiliki keterbatasan biaya yang dinyatakan dengan:
    • Fotokopi slip gaji dari orang tua yang bekerja (Ayah, ibu atau anggota keluarga lain yang bertanggung jawab atas atau menanggung hidup Mahasiswa tersebut) atau surat keterangan tidak mampu dari RT (Rukun Tetangga) atau RW (Rukun Warga) dari lingkungan tempat tinggal orang tua Mahasiswa atau anggota keluarga lain yang bertanggung jawab atas atau menanggung hidup Mahasiswa tersebut.
    • Salinan tagihan rekening listrik tempat tinggal orang tua Mahasiswa atau anggota keluarga lain yang bertanggung jawab atas atau menanggung hidup Mahasiswa tersebut selama 3 (tiga) bulan terakhir.
  • Bersedia di-survey oleh Tim Seleksi.
  • Mengkonfirmasikan diri sebagai calon mahasiswa dengan menanda-tangani Surat Pernyataan diatas meterai.

Kewajiban Penerima Beasiswa

  • Berpartisipasi aktif dalam kegiatan akademik dan non-akademik Program S-1 Prasetiya Mulya
  • Mempertahankan IPK (Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif) 3.0 (tiga koma nol) dari skala maksimum 4.0 di setiap semester.
  • Menjaga nama baik dan reputasi Prasetiya Mulya Business School
  • Menjaga perilaku dan sikap

    Beasiswa dari Pemerintah Federasi Rusia 2010/2011

    VIVAnews – In the 2010/2011 academic year the Russian Federation Government provides 35 scholarships for citizens of the Republic of Indonesia. Scholarships awarded for levels of S-1 (Bachelor) and S-2 (Master) as much as 25 scholarships. As for Level S-3 (Kandidatura), Post-Doctoral (Doktorantura) as many as 10 scholarships.

    Courses (specialization) is offered, including Legal Studies, Political Science, Medicine, Natural Sciences (Natural Science) Social Sciences / Humanities; Science Education; of Health Sciences (Public Health); Economics and Management (Economic Policy and Management); Specialties Interdisciplinary Engineering, Natural Sciences; Geology and Mineral Resources; Exploration Mineral Sciences Energy and Mechanical Engineering Plant (Power Machinery Engineering); Metallurgy; Construction Machinery and Materials Processing; Aviation, rocket and Space Technology (Machinery Space).


    Pada tahun ajaran 2010/2011 Pemerintah Federasi Rusia memberikan 35 beasiswa bagi warga negara Republik Indonesia. Beasiswa diberikan untuk jenjang S-1 (Bachelor) dan S-2 (Magister) sebanyak 25 beasiswa. Sedangkan untuk Jenjang S-3 (Kandidatura), Post-Doktoral (Doktorantura) sebanyak 10 beasiswa.

    Perguruan Tinggi atau universitas untuk belajar terdapat di kota-kota di seluruh Federasi Rusia. Penempatan penerima beasiswa ditentukan oleh Pemerintah Federasi Rusia.

    Proses belajar-mengajar diselenggarakan dalam bahasa Rusia. Untuk itu selama 1 (satu) tahun semua penerima beasiswa program studi S-1 dan S-2 akan belajar di Fakultas Persiapan (Preparatory Faculty) untuk mempelajari bahasa Rusia dan mata pelajaran yang sesuai dengan jurusan/program studi yang telah dipilih.

    Bagi Penerima beasiswa Jenjang S-3, Doktorantura akan mempelajari bahasa Rusia selama proses belajar (tidak melalui Fakultas Persiapan).

    Berkas lamaran lengkap harus diserahkan langsung ke Bagian Kebudayaan Kedutaan Besar Federasi Rusia – Pusat Ilmu Pengetahuan dan Kebudayaan Rusia di Jalan Diponegoro, 12, Menteng, Jakarta Pusat, sebelum tanggal 26 Maret 2010.

    The Main Objectives of the ADS Program are :
    • To assist Indonesian public and private institutions meet identified institutional objectives and training needs through the provision of postgraduate education to selected staff;
    • To assist individuals to increase their capacity to contribute to Indonesian institutions and professions by the provision of postgraduate study opportunities in Australia;
    • To assist alumni of the ADS scheme to maintain and update their academic and professional skills;
    • To promote Indonesia and Australia's equity in development policies;
    • To deliver training that complements the human resource development goals outlined in AusAID's Indonesian Country Program Strategy; and
    • To select high quality candidates with the ability to succeed at tertiary study in Australia, with minimal extensions and with the abiliity contribute to Indonesia's development.
    Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) are funded by the Government of Australia for postgraduate study at Australian universities. The main goal of ADS is to promote Indonesia's human resource capacity to contribute to four areas of development priority:Sustainable Growth and Economic Management; Investing in People; Democracy, Justice and Good Governance; and Safety and Peace. Selection ProcessAll applicants are considered by an independent Joint Selection Committee comprised of Australian and Indonesian academics. Only those shortlisted will be interviewed. The interview will assess candidates’ academic ability, clarity of study goals, cultural adaptability. A critical consideration will be how well the ADS applicant is able to explain the relevance of their proposed study area to the development of Indonesia. The interview will be accompanied by an IELTS test of English language proficiency. Final selection is objective and based on the principles of merit and equity.

    Notification Of The Selection ResultAll applicants will be advised whether or not they have been shortlisted for an interview. All interviewed applicants will be notified whether or not they have been awarded an ADS. The agencies of Public sector nominees will also be notified. The result is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Notification will include details of pre-departure training (English, academic skills, cultural preparation). This training is compulsory and full-time.
